I write this knowing the number of U of D graduates in the area and how great their school is, blah, blah, blah. But I cringe each year they raise in-state tuition, this year 9.6 percent which succeeds a 9.7 percent rise in 2009-10.
Especially after UD and the state’s two other public institutions, Del St U and Deltech each received a boost of $10 million from the budget surplus this year.
UD waited until after the budget had been approved by the legislators to make their announcement.
In addition UD has one of the largest endowments in the country, millions of dollars drawing interest. Like many colleges today, many of their professors are in name only and do not teach instead having an associate. The names are to draw the top students and collect more money from the alumni. The president of the university is one of the top paid in the country, salaries of their professors are above the national norm.
Meanwhile parents and student struggle to pay for an education. I can’t understand with the taxpayers giving the colleges so much money why there is any charge at all for in-state residents.
Let those out-of-state pay more or let them go to the colleges in their states.
