WINTJEN IN HICKMAN OUT LAUREL SCHOOL BOARD

Incumbent school board member and former LHS teacher Dot Hickman has decided not to seek another term on the Laurel School Board. As of the deadline to file Friday, Linda Wintjen was the only one to file for the 5-year term and will serve in Hickman’s spot.

Hickman who joined two other board members in not renewing former superintendent John McCoy’s contract was embroiled in a heated community debate over the firing.

She was considered the swing vote in the debate and decided to vote for McCoy’s ouster.

Wintjen was supported by LEAD the group which supported Patrick Vanderslice who won a landslide upside over Calvin Musser who also voted for the McCoy ouster. She will take her seat July 1.

  1. Congratulations to Linda! She will be a great addition to the board and will definitely have the best interest of the students and community first.

  2. We are pleased that Linda will be on the school board. Jim said, “John Trivits said it best and we can’t think of another way to add to his statement and make it sound better for Linda.” Thank you, Janet
