Seems like every year at this time Casino operators in Delaware cry poor mouth and threaten closing their doors or laying off people if state lawmakers don’t lower their tax rate.
Each year the governor resists their threats, and guess what the casinos are still open.
This year the threat is lay-offs. Most often the crying comes from Dover Downs while the other two counties seem to get along just fine.
Many claim Dover Downs overspent and mismanaged their money when Delaware gambling was in its heyday before neighboring states of Maryland and PA opened casinos.
Some of my friends who frequent the Delaware slots have complained the winnings aren’t as good as they use to be.
Maybe if the slots would give a little more, people from the neighboring states might return to the Delaware casinos.
