Sophomore pitcher Regan Green tossed a perfect game as the Laurel Lady Bulldogs won its first DIAA state softball championship with a 3-0 victory over Polytech on Saturday. It was Polytech’s second loss, both coming at the hands of the Bulldogs. Both teams finished with a 20-2 record.
Green struck out 8 of the first 9 batters she faced; only 6 Panthers were able to put a ball in play. Laurel scored one run in the 4th inning and two in the 5th to put the game away.
for Laurel, now considered one of the smallest schools in the state, it is only the fourth state championship in any sport, joining the football team’s Division ll crowns in 1986 and 1991, and the first title for the girls.
Regan Green and her sister Logan, a senior both pitched the team to victories in the tournament. The sisters are two of the seven current Laurel players who won a Senior League World Series championship two years ago.
Congratulations to the Lady Bulldogs.!!!
