When St. Georges senior halfback Taronn Selby took an opening kickoff 86 yards down the sidelines with only 14 seconds of play, Laurel Bulldog fans knew it was going to be a bad night for them.
With 7:17 left in the first quarter, the score was 20-0 as St. Georges scored each time they had possession in the first quarter.
Bulldog’s Chucky Auguste provided a ray of hope with a 90-yard kick-off return; he also rushed 14 times for 99 yards. But the Hawks came back with another quick score.
At halftime the score was 41-14; Laurel lost the game 52-22.
The Bulldog offense could not contain the rush of the Hawks defensive line, as Laurel’s backfield was smothered many times. A couple Bulldog fumbles resulted in scores for St. Georges.
