Leave it to the Tea Party for all the answers. Now they have found a medical miracle in the bodies of women that thwart pregnancy’s if they have been raped.
Six-term Congressman Todd Akin a Missouri Republican/Tea Party activist seeking election as the State’s U.S. Senator stated in a TV interview Sunday that women’s bodies can prevent pregnancies in “a legitimate rape” what the hell every a legitimate rape is, and that conception is rare in such cases. Really?
He said, “It seems to be first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Akin said. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Akin said of a rape victim’s chances of becoming pregnant. I surely don’t want that doctor evaulating me.
Gee that kind of statement must want women to have open season on rapists. What the hell was he thinking? Ae Republicans intentionally wanting to throw away the women vote and think they have enough ignorant men to pick up the slack at the voting booth?
Of course this statement was followed up with a statement from his staff that he “misspoke” during the interview. But he has cancelled all appearances including some talk show engagements for today.
Akin’s has a long-established base among evangelical Christians and was endorsed in his recent primary by more than 100 pastors.
Terry O’Neill, president of the National Organization for Women, on Sunday called Akin’s remarks “flat-out astonishing.”
“That kind of rhetoric re-traumatizes sexual assault victims…That kind of talk, I believe, is intended to shame women.” she told AP Radio.
I have to tell you regardless of your political preferences, this election scares hell out of me…many of the candidates on the ticket are nut cases and will probably win because many American Voters are ill-informed on the issues and are voting with the bottom half of their body.
